Working with multiple users/computers

Svija is meant to be used by teams or from multiple computers.

For the purposes of this page, we will talk about multiple computers — whether it is you or someone else who is using them does not change anything.

Basic Workflow

When working with multiple computers, the basic workflow is as follows:

  1. download any changes from the server
  2. start uploading
  3. work on the website
  4. stop uploading

If you are working alone on a single computer, step 1 is not necessary.

The essential principal of working as a team is:

START BY GETTING CHANGES FROM THE SERVER

PC: Downloading Changes

Steps to update your local SYNC folder to match the server:

  • connect to your website with WinSCP
you should be inside the SYNC folder in both panels
  • type ctrl-S for Synchronize (or menu CommandsSynchronize)
  • Direction/Target directory: Local
  • verify synchronization settings (see below)
  • click OK

This will update your computer to match the content on your server. If no one else or no other computer has updated your website, no changes will be made.

WinSCP synchronisation settings:

  • Mode: Synchronize files
  • √ Delete files
  • — Preview changes
  • — Existing files only
  • — Selected files only
  • √ Use same options next time

NOTE: team-members/computers must synchronize changes as they work. This is the normal Svija workflow.

If pages are not synchronized as you work, downloading changes may delete work done locally.

macOS: Downloading Changes

Svija Sync makes downloading changes simple: click Download to update your local SYNC folder.
